How good is AVG free edition (regularly updated) as an antivirus?

I only have a regularly updated AVG Free dition (latest) and Spyware Terminator installed in my computer. I have to do regular internet work. So, how well is my computer protected?

In addition to those programs, you should have a firewall, preferably one with intrusion prevention. You should make sure to use the realtime shield in Spyware Terminator, but you may want additional removal programs, since no one antispyware program can protect against all spyware due to the different interpretations of what constitutes spyware.

I endorse the use of good freeware security applications, as I've found them to be as effective or more so than commercial programs, when properly configured and used in the right mix. The selections below make for good ''roll your own'' suites:

firewall: (listed in order of preference)

Comodo (http://www.comodo.com ), or

PC Tools (http://www.pctools.com/firewall )

Comodo recently released version 3.0 of its firewall, which adds an intrusion prevention component that's very effective, though it does take time for it to learn your system, and requires some ongoing attention by the user to make sure programs don't get improperly blocked. Comodo is one of the strongest firewalls available, freeware or commercial, according to the independent testing site matousec.com.
