Is free security software (anti spyware, antivirus, firewalls) any good? if so, which ones are?

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following linkhttp://www.computeractive.co.uk/. On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Zone Alarm offers a 15 day trial, but you'll have to buy it to get really strong security.

Some of them are and some are not, be very careful downloading anything that is label for FREE. When it says for free, its not, there is a price to pay for software that says for free, the price is (ADWARE, SPYWARE, TROJAN HORSES, and VIRUSES) If you are looking for programs that are good and reliable, read what others has to say about them before you try them, make sure that your get lots of information on what your are interested in also. There are quite a few antivirus, spyware , register cleaner, Etc. program out there, but there are lots of them loaded with spyware, adware, some viruses, and trojan horses. Just be careful.
